Welcome to my journey!

This blog serves as a canvas for my experiences, thoughts, and insights as an equestrian in two vastly different worlds.

Hey there, and welcome to my little corner of the internet.

I’m Sarah, and I’m thrilled to share my passion for horses and the equestrian lifestyle with you. I split my time between Texas, where I’m learning how to ride horses as an adult and building comfy routines, and a tiny island in Alaska, where sunny days are a rarity and everyone is working hard to make the most of every day. Each location offers unique lessons, challenges, and rewards that shape my equestrian journey.

It’s a weird balance—fast and slow, structured and creative. Some days I feel like I live in two completely separate worlds. That’s where the name Life in Two Saddles came from. One saddle is literal—lesson barns, horses, tack, and learning to ride as an adult. The other is metaphorical—the version of me that’s learning how to stay grounded and creative, even when I’m far from the things that usually keep me going. I frequently find myself reflecting on how the horseback riding experience can transform one’s perspective on life itself.

Why I’m Starting This Now

For a long time, I told myself I needed to “wait” until I had something polished to share. But honestly? This is my life as it is right now: in progress. I’m learning to ride, learning to be more present, learning to find joy in small things whether I’m sweating at a Texas barn or listening to the rain on a tin roof in Alaska. Each experience, every challenge, and every breakthrough adds to the story I want to tell through this blog.

I wanted a place to share that. Not just the curated stuff, but the real parts—the quiet wins, the awkward fails, and the little moments that remind me why I love riding, writing, and creating in the first place. It’s about embracing the journey and celebrating the process, rather than just the polished end result.

What’s Coming Next

Next up, I’m writing about a lesson horse who completely changed how I see progress—because sometimes, the horse that makes you feel stuck is the one who teaches you the most. I’ll share my personal experiences with various lesson horses and how they’ve impacted my riding journey.
